ADMINISTRATIVE / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

From 2014 through 2017, while on leave of absence from his law firm, Shelby was the Executive Director of the Atlanta Center for International Arbitration and Mediation (now known as the Georgia State Arbitration Center), a component of the Georgia State University College of Law (“GSU”). GSU operates a state-of-the art hearing facility hosting arbitrations, mediations and labor negotiations. During his time at GSU, Shelby ran the hearing center and taught courses in international commercial arbitration and coached the GSU Vis Moot team. He also negotiated MOUs with the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, the ICC Court of International Arbitration, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, the Financial Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”), JAMS, the Society of Maritime Arbitrators and the Vienna International Arbitral Centre. 

Shelby served as an adjunct professor of law at Emory University in Atlanta. Georgia, USA where he taught courses in international commercial arbitration. He has also taught international commercial arbitration as an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee, USA and at Georgia State University College of Law. Early in his career, Shelby was a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

BAR ADMISSIONS

Shelby is a member of the bars of Tennessee and Georgia. He has been admitted pro hac vice in a number of other U.S. jurisdictions, including California, Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Illinois, Florida, Ohio, New Jersey, Texas and Wisconsin.

EDUCATION

Shelby is a 1975 JD graduate of the University of Alabama Law School. At Alabama, he was a member of the Bench & Bar Honor Society and the Editorial Board of the Alabama Law Review. He also holds a BA degree from the University of Mississippi where he had a triple major in history, English and political science.
